Rental Terms and Conditions
1. Driver Eligibility & Documentation
1.1. Licensing Requirements: Drivers must present a valid license held for a minimum of 12 months. Accepted licenses:
- Greek
- EU Licenses
- International Driving Permits (IDP) – must be accompanied by the local license.
It is the renter’s responsibility to ensure their documents are valid for driving in Greece.
1.2. Age Restrictions
- 21–24 years: May rent vehicles from categories A, B, C. Special terms may apply.
- 25 years and above: Eligible to rent from the full vehicle fleet.
- 74+ years: Rentals are permitted under specific conditions—please inquire in advance.
1.3. Required Documents at Pickup: At the time of vehicle delivery, you must present:
- Valid driver’s license
- Passport or official ID
- Physical credit or debit card (in the primary renter’s name)
2. Vehicle Pickup, Return & Geographic Use
2.1. Locations: Delivery and collection locations are shown on the reservation form.
2.2. Timing & Cancellations: A one-hour pickup grace period applies. If you’re late with no prior notice, the company may cancel the reservation.
2.3. Return Terms
- Return must occur at the agreed place/time.
- Late returns (beyond 2 hours) incur a full extra day charge.
- Modifying your return time or location requires 24-hour prior notice.
- Fuel level must match the pickup level; otherwise, fuel costs plus a €15 service charge apply.
2.4. Crete-Only Restriction: Vehicles must not be transported off the island.
3. Payment Terms, Deposits & Cancellations
3.1. Accepted Payment Methods
- Major credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard)
- PayPal (website use only)
- Bank transfer (on request)
- Cash
3.2. Deposits: All deposits are securely processed via Cardlink and returned automatically at the end of the rental. Bank processing times can range from 14–30 business days, depending on the institution. Eurocreta.gr is not responsible for bank delays.
3.3. Cancellation & Refund Policy
- Cancel 8+ days prior to pickup → 75% refund of prepayment amount
- Cancel within 7 days or fail to show → No refund
- Early return or last-minute booking cancellation → Non-refundable Refunds are also denied in cases of:
- Invalid/expired license or no license at pickup
- Unsuccessful payment processing
- Rejection of terms or inappropriate conduct at the office
4. Vehicle Usage & Responsibilities
4.1. Authorized Drivers: Only individuals listed in the rental contract may operate the vehicle. Unauthorized use voids insurance and places full liability on the renter.
4.2. Driving Standards Drivers must:
- Respect Greek traffic laws.
- Avoid reckless or impaired driving.
- Keep the vehicle in good condition.
- Lock and park the car securely when not in use.
- Avoid unpaved/off-road routes (e.g., Balos Beach); violators incur a €300 penalty, loss of underbody/tyre/glass coverage, and liability for all resulting damages.
4.3. Prohibited Uses Include:
- Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Towing other vehicles
- Subletting
- Racing or motorsport activity
- Using the vehicle as collateral, or modifying it
4.4. Mechanical Damage Due to Negligence The renter is responsible for issues caused by improper use, such as:
- Incorrect fuel usage
- Not applying handbrake on slopes
- Ignoring dashboard alerts
- Battery drain from lights left on
- Rough transmission handling or overloading
5. Additional Features & Incident Policy
5.1. Equipment & Services
- Child seats are Free of Charge and GPS devices available for a fee (self-installed by renter).
- Optional insurance for tires and glass offered at pickup.
5.2. Cleaning Standards & Penalties
- Cars must be returned clean enough to inspect
- €20 charge if inspection is obstructed
- €150 charge for excessive interior dirt, smoking, or unapproved pet transport
5.3. Animals Pets are only allowed in proper crates designed for transport.
5.4. Key Loss & Roadside Assistance Lost keys incur:
- Key replacement cost
- €25 administrative fee
- Transport cost (based on distance)
5.5. Traffic Violations Renters are fully responsible for fines. A €15 handling fee is charged if the company processes the fine. License plate confiscation results in a €500 penalty.
6. Included Services & Insurance Options
6.1. Complimentary Benefits (with Full Insurance):
- Theft, fire, personal accident, and liability coverage
- Collision Damage Waiver (with deductible)
- Emergency roadside support
- All taxes and fees, including airport charges
- Unlimited kilometers
- Vehicle replacement in case of breakdown
- Fair fuel policy
- No card processing fees
6.2. Insurance Plans:
- Full Insurance: Covers collision, theft, fire, liability, and breakdown. Also includes a second driver (25–74 years old) and reduced deductible.
- Premium Insurance (optional): Adds tire, glass, and underbody protection. Mandatory for those under 25 or over 74. Only valid with Full Insurance. Underbody coverage is void if driving on unpaved roads or engaging in reckless behavior.
- Deposit: Still required to cover extras like fuel imbalances, fines, or cleaning fees.
- Claims Handling Fee: €35 per claim, regardless of coverage.
6.3. Accident Protocol
- Contact Eurocreta.gr immediately.
- Notify police.
- Failure to comply voids insurance and results in full liability.
- Serious traffic violations (e.g., DUI) are not covered under any plan.
6.4. Important Coverage Notice
Please note: Full Insurance not includes coverage for tire or glass damage. To protect yourself from unexpected repair charges, we strongly advise purchasing the Premium Insurance add-on.
Regardless of the insurance tier you select, there is a non-refundable €35 administration fee applied to all processed claims.
A security deposit is mandatory for all insurance types and is held to cover your applicable deductible/excess. The required deposit amount varies based on factors such as your age, the rental vehicle category, and the coverage package selected. For personalized details, please contact Eurocreta.gr directly.
If the renter or an authorized driver is found to be at fault, liability is limited to the deductible amount, but only for those with Full or Premium Insurance.
Important exclusion: No insurance coverage applies if the renter violates the Traffic Code—especially in cases of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In such cases, you will be held fully responsible for all resulting costs.
6.5. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
This rental agreement is subject exclusively to Greek legislation. Any legal disputes or claims will be resolved by the Courts of Heraklion.
